Park Lawn is a vibrant school, community centre, and barrier-free facility, used year round for camps and recreational programming. Located beside recreation facilities
and close to natural areas, the schoolyard is a true community hub – but is badly in need of revitalization.
The Dream is Now a Reality
For over 10 years, an enthusiastic group of parents and staff – the “dream” team, now called the Revitalization Committee – have been working on plans to build a brand new
schoolyard. The committee has worked together with the city councillor Peter Milczyn and school board trustee and staff to secure funding, design a master plan, and gather community support for the project.
The New Schoolyard: A Place for Learning, Playing, Connecting
The revitalization will occur in phases but will eventually feature:
. An Improved Pedestrian Path: a tree-lined, widened pedestrian pathway with seating areas and lighting, linking the school and the community
. Fitness Track: a barrier-free pedestrian trail for walking and running, supporting fitness
and a healthy lifestyle. Outdoor Classroom: a learning space to support environmental
awareness and science and math learning
. Growing Gardens: repurposing existing space to support environmental education
. Improved lighting, landscaping, green technologies, beautification
We have a vision to transform Park Lawn JMS into a centre of excellence for science, math and environmental education supported by improvements to the outdoor environment, resulting in the school becoming a magnet for students, staff and the community.
